Technique Thursday ~ Yo-Yos

My friend Sandie from Crafty Corral beat me to the punch on this item for discussion yesterday. I had my post scheduled for today. Run on over there and take a look, two Great Minds Think Alike. Even to the fact that next week I was going to post about Saltines. Way to go Sandie! Perhaps between the two of us you will find the information helpful.

What is a Yo-yo? ~ It is simply a small 1 round crocheted circle. It is the inside circle to a granny square. Or if you prefer a larger circle you can make it 2 rounds or 1. Directions below.

What do I do with a Yo-yo? ~ Oh, so many things can be made with this sweet little circle. Anything you can imagine can be made from this cute little circle. Here is a small list of items: I DID NOT MAKE THESE ITEMS

Squares

This square is part of an Afghan made with a square by Chris Simon of Yarn Crazy

Blankets

This item can be found at Craftzine

Toys

Button decorations or even buttons themselves

Decoration

Pillows
Trees
Purses
Jewelry
Shawls
Just let your imagination run wild or you can check the Internet for more pictures and ideas

How do I make a Yo-yo? ~ Do not fear! If you know how to start the inside circle to a granny square then you know how to make a yo-yo. You begin with a chain 3 or 4, join to form a ring, which ever you are comfortable with for a starting ring that will allow 12 dc into it.
Round 1: ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), make 11 dc into center of ring, join with sl st to close. Finish off here. This is a true Yo-yo.

Follow this round only if you want a larger circle.
Round 2: ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc once more in same space as join, make 2 dc in each dc from previous round. Finish off.

There you have it, a YO-YO. Simple Right? I believe this is a wonderful project to use up bits of scrap yarn. Have fun with these, they are fast and addicting.

Next Week: Saltines

That's it today. Ghost, OUT!
