Oval Rug

One of my groups got on a tear to make oval rugs from Peaches and Cream yarn. Well I have scads of cotton yarn of that type and did not want to spend the money to get more yarn and pay for the pattern only then. So, I went looking for a formula to make an oval rug and found a pattern at vintage crochet.

I am using an "N" hook and Lion Brand Cotton Thick & Quick in two colors of Fern Green and Poppy Red. This rug will be used in my office at the door entry. The colors are not the colors of the office but I lack a rug in this area and it needs one. So, since I did not add any backing to keep it from sliding I will use it on a carpeted area. It is kind of nice and a bit Christmasy in color. I think it i a nice contrast of colors.

I should mention that this yarn is quite heavy and does stress the hands a lot, so it will be slow going for this item as my hands tired easily these days. Also, we are in the throws of summer heat and this is heavy yarn so that also puts it on the back burner.

Ghost, OUT!

I know what you mean about the thick yarn stressing the hands. I just made a bag out of thick yarn and found the same thing. I don't think it was as thick as the Thick and Quick though. Love the fern green color and I always love red, so can't wait to see the two together.

Been years since I've made a rug so I know what you mean about the hands. Do take it slow and easy. I had some octogon shaped pattern back in the day, and remember getting sorta dizzy when I looked at the rug with my bi-focals...the colors were red and blue, which blurred to a purple when I moved. Used them in the bedroom and they were real durable, easy to wash etc. But, they were slippery which now that I'm older would be a safety issue.

Have fun with it.
